Heaven’s Gate was a UFO-based religious cult, founded in the 1970s. In 1997, thirty-nine suicide deaths in San Diego California, were found with direct relation to the cult. Taken over by leader Marshall Applewhite, this cult was occupied with ordinary people. Heaven’s Gate typeface was designed to reflect their beliefs of extraterrestrial life. This custom designed typeface is displayed through a poster and booklet design. The notion of cults being excessively structured and uniform is conveyed through the letterforms and stroke widths. The booklet and poster were shot under fluorescent light, exposing the feeling of The Next Level.
