The City of Melbourne’s objective was to develop street trading as a means of enhancing the vitality of Melbourne’s image as “a place where everything happens”. 
The Outdoor Café Guide, accompanied by a set of informative mini guides and a CD, had to encourage high quality outdoor cafés to enhance amenity, vitality and ambience of Melbourne’s outdoors, ensuring the community’s values of safety, accessibility and inclusiveness were maintained. The Guide was required to reach out to a range of audiences from café owners to architects, providing a clear, structured design, while retaining the image of Melbourne’s creative culture.
